Teaching the Graphic Novel, an Approach for Comp II Classroom, Part 2

This semester I am teaching my ENGL 1302 (Comp 2) course by having my students do research on Graphic Novels.

One particular lesson has me engaging the students in examining McCloud’s Ch. 4 in an attempt to better understand how Time and Space operate within comic books/graphic novels:

McCloud talks about FOUR major ways of approaching this:

1. The extra panel

2. The multiple extra panels

3. The elongated gutter space

4. The elongated panel

One student really decided to get interesting with their spatial arrangement and “broke” out. I loved it.

So, here we are moving further and further along this path, let’s see where it leads us (me and the students both).
